Overstock has its sights set on becoming the online furniture retailer of choice for the Indian market.
The company launched its first furniture store in Delhi, Delhi Dharavi in May this year and recently announced that it would launch its second store in Mumbai by the end of the year.
The brand launched a number of furniture retail stores across the country and has already launched a retail store in Chennai, Chennai.
The brand has also opened its online furniture store and recently opened its second online furniture retail store at Delhi Dibrugarh in the city of Bengaluru.
While the brand is currently focussed on offering affordable furniture, the brand has plans to expand into more online retail space, which would be a major step towards becoming the furniture retailer that its customers would want to shop for.
In India, furniture retailers are very niche in comparison to those in other countries.
India has more than 250 retail outlets for furniture, but only two of these outlets are online.
For example, over 70 percent of Indian retail stores are online, which makes it difficult for them to cater to customers who want a larger selection.
The online furniture stores that Overstock is eyeing to launch in India are called Overstock India.
They have plans to start a retail shop in Mumbai as well as expand their online store into other parts of India by the year-end.
“We are definitely looking for an online furniture shop that will cater to our customers, but also cater to all types of customers, including those who are looking for cheap furniture,” said Amit Thakkar, chief executive officer, Overstock.
The company is already working on its first brick-and-mortar store, which is expected to launch sometime this year.
The outlet will focus on online retail as well, with the aim of offering both online and offline furniture to its customers.
Overstock has launched its online stores in more than 40 cities in the country including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Hyderapuram, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
The Indian online furniture shops are likely to focus on offering low prices on furniture, while also having an extensive selection of high-quality furniture for the home and office.
