Woman charged in $1.9M house fire

A woman has been charged with first-degree arson after her home in northern Indiana was destroyed by a fire that broke out Friday night.

Authorities said the fire broke out around 8 p.m. at the home of Bethany Johnson, 63, of New Britain, about 50 miles east of Indianapolis.

She was taken into custody.

A woman is accused of setting fire to a home in northwest Indiana, according to a news release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say they are still investigating the cause of the fire, which damaged several buildings.

The fire damaged an electric vehicle battery and several other properties in the town of Lisle, about 75 miles southeast of Indianapolis, according the news release.
